Accessibility Consultancy

Date Added / Last Changed: Monday 08th February 2010

ADAPT guidelines and expert advice promotes standards of best practice in Universal Accessibility. The intent of universal accessibility incorporates the ethos of Universal Design, which is to simplify life for people of all ages, sizes and abilities, by making products, communications and the built environment more usable, often at little or no extra cost.

An audit of design plans will review the feasibility for improving accessibility features to promote best practice in accessibility. The audit is available as ad-hoc option or can be included as part of the consultation service

Consultation Service We advocate for accessibility consultation from the offset; during the planning and design stages of new build and capital refurbishment schemes. The process of consultation is encouraged throughout the project life-cycle to functional completion

  ADAPT expertise will determine

  • that your project achieves compliance with the requirements of disability legislation and (if appropriate) can meet the criteria of the funding bodies

  • that the needs of disabled people receive the optimum consideration by Client and Design Team

  • that the Client  promotes standards of best practice in accessibility and maximise the potential for inclusion

The commercial benefits for the client:

  •  Enhancing market value: New build / development designed to be inclusive are more likely to attract a substantial percentage (21%) of the local population.

  • Where DDA duties may require the removal or modification of physical features of buildings.. It is significantly more cost-effective to provide for inclusive access at the design stage than to make retrospective adjustments.

Early consultation is a proactive approach to accessibility and will add value to the building, hence rewarding investors, service providers and service users alike.

ADAPT is committed to building equality and inclusion for disabled people by improving accessibility (both physical and attitudinal).  All ADAPT services aim to eliminate the potential for discrimination of people with disabilities in society.  To date our work has earned us a reputation as a leading authority in accessibility consultancy
