To date our work has earned us a reputation as a leading authority in Disability Equality Training (DET).
ADAPT Training advocates the social model of disability to address equality as a rights issue. Training is tailored to focus on helping the client meet statutory obligations and to develop inclusive services which anticipate evolving regulations and further EU legislation change.

Disability Awareness and Equality Training:

Aim of training
- To increase confidence in communicating and working with disabled people.
- To encourage & facilitate participation by responding to support requirements
- To understand legislation & the underlying legal duties for service providers
The seminars will cover:
- The legal definition of Disability
- Review your organisation’s commitment / policy for disability equality
- Different impairments & appropriate customer care and etiquette
- Overview of current legislation including DDA 1995 and DDO 2006
- Practical tips that service providers can use to improve accessibility for all

Seminar structure:
An introduction to Disability - One hour session can be integrated into induction training
Quality Standards for Service ‘Excellence’ – Disability Customer Care
- 1/2Day - create a mutual understanding with disabled people
- Full Day - inclusive customer care toolkit & basic legal duties
Statutory Obligations for Service Providers
- 1/2 Day – overview of disability law & service providers responsibilities
- Full Day – understand service providers and employers’ statutory obligations
Accessible infrastructure &the implications of building design
This training will benefit anyone working in areas of design, construction and maintenance of the built environment
Aim of training
- To identify the key physical features of the built environment that preclude disabled people’ participation and to investigate solutions that facilitate support requirements
- To provide an overview of statutory regulations underlying key legal duties and to differentiate between minimum standards and best practice in accessibility
The seminars will cover:
- The principles of Universal Design and Universal Accessibility
- Physical barriers in the built environment & creative design for functional
- solutions
- Statutory Regulation v Voluntary Codes of Practice
- Practical steps service providers can take to ensure accessibility for all.

- ADAPTing for Access – sequence of units in Customer Care, legislation, solving barriers with communication techniques with practical workshops to apply learning (up to 6 days)
