ATTENTION ALL SERVICE PROVIDERS - Remember DDA ?
The Disability Discrimination Act (1995) part III came into effect
in October 1999 and as from "October 2004" the final provision on
physical adjustments to premises embedded in the DDA applies to
all service providers! This means that it is unlawful to treat a
disabled person less favourably for reasons relating to that person's
disability and requires "Reasonable Adjustments" to remove/overcome
the physical barriers to access for everyone.
The DDA sets targets perceived as minimum standards. These benchmarks
are likely to improve in relation to evolving legislation. ADAPT
NI specialises in Universal Accessibility Advice, Training and Support
for the removal of discriminatory physical and attitudinal barriers.
- Does your service meet the requirements of DDA legislation?
- Are your policies and procedures in keeping with best practice?
- Do you fully understand the implications of the DDA, Part III
for your organisation?
If you answer 'no' to any of the above, don't panic!
ADAPT NI recognises the need for expert advice
and support to achieve standards of best practice in accessibility
provision and can offer;
- A survey of the premises to appraise accessibility needs
- Formulate a written report with access recommendations
- Provide ongoing advice, guidelines, assessment and support as
required
- Evaluation of completed access project
- Disability Equality & Accessibility Consultancy Training
(estimated costs available on request)
ADAPT guidelines promote the application of best practice in relation
to anticipating any further statutory improvements in standards
of accessibility.
GOOD ACCESSIBILITY IS SIMPLY GOOD BUSINESS.
